Education:

Graduated from the Philological Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1976; in 1981, completed the postgraduate studies at Moscow State University in the Department of Russian Literature.

PhD thesis:

The novel “Resurrection” by Leo Tolstoy. Genre innovation and the problem of tradition» (1982)

DSc thesis:

The prose by Sergey Maksimov. Textology and issues of poetics (1997)

Scientific and organisational activities:

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the academic edition of Leo Tolstoy’s Complete Works in 100 volumes.

Member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences “History of World Culture” and chairwoman of Tolstoyan commission in the structure of the said council.

Member of the Academic Council of A. M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IWL RAS)

Editor-in-Chief of Gorky IWL RAS scientific journal “Two Centuries of the Russian Classics”

2004 – Mikhail Lermontov Medal “for personal contribution to the multinational culture of the Russian Federation and to strengthening Russian statehood” (for the 190th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov's birth).

2005 – Active Service Commemorative Medal (awardee as a foreign collaborator of the Slavic research group at the University of Ottawa, Canada).
